It has been said that adversity helps define a President’s term. And there is potentially nothing more serious than a natural disaster hitting the USA to help shine a light on leadership skills.
Hurricane Harvey appears ready to wreak havoc on Texas. Political talking heads are already saying that Trump’s response to the hurricane will define his presidency. This is a bit of an overstatement, as too many people use the disastrous federal government response to Hurricane Katrina as a prime example. A good presidential response is mainly acting as Comforter-in-Chief, and mostly staying the heck out of the way, and allowing federal and state forces to manage and help where needed.
But it would be a great guess to assume that Trump will somehow make this ‘his’ hurricane, and turn a natural disaster into a “Look at Me” moment.
